The Best Parks in Idaho Falls

You could find yourself in the Idaho Falls area for many reasons. Whether you are passing through on your way to your next destination, visiting for a few days, or a new resident you may be searching for a good park to go to. Even if you have been living in the Idaho Falls area for a long time but recently had children of your own or have friends visiting with children. In Idaho Falls you can usually head to a park from about March to November, and you may need a jacket for some of those months. Idaho Falls is a family-friendly community with many parks to support all the families and visitors in the area. Be sure to check out at least one of our great parks and what it has to offer to those who go to them. 

Tautphaus Park

One of the larger parks in Idaho Falls is Tautphaus Park. It is in the middle of town with baseball fields, a skate park, shelters available for rent or use, tennis courts, and restrooms. All for the use of the public that visits the park. During the spring and summer months, it is not uncommon for baseball or softball tournaments to be held at this park. There is a large playground at this park that is an all-access playground to be inclusive. During the winter months, you can go to the ice arena for recreational ice skating, hockey, or competitive ice skating. Across from the ice area, you will find the Idaho Falls Zoo which is known for being the “best little zoo in the West.” Lastly, the city of Idaho Falls renovated and reopened Funland which has a few rides for children to enjoy during the warmer months of the year. 

Community Park 

If you are on the look for a path that goes around a park but it isnt too long, Community Park is a great option. At this park, you will find 4 baseball fields that are commonly used for baseball or softball tournaments as well. Two soccer fields are utilized for games and practices for local soccer leagues. There are bathrooms at the park that can be used by the public, a shelter with picnic tables, and a playground next to the shelter. The playground has swings, a climbing structure, and a zipline that is typically a big kid with kids! Many people in the community love to come and use the walking path that is a total of .75 miles around the park. 

McCowin Park 

Although Mccowin Park is technically in Ammon, it is a park that is used by all of the area. It is a great place to find something for everyone to enjoy. At McCowin Park there are 8 pickleball courts with lights so you can play at night. It also has 3 baseball fields, 3 soccer fields, 2 tennis courts, and a 9-hole disc golf course. Two shelters can be used in the park and a .7 mile walking path that goes around the park. A playground can be found there right next to the splash pad which is a great way for kids to cool off during the hot summer months. Not only does the park have a splash pad, but there is also a community pool that offers swim lessons and open swim hours for the community to enjoy. 

Russ Freeman Park 

On the river, on the west side of town, you can find Russ Freeman Park. It is a large park with a lot of open space and amenities that you can enjoy. A large walking path goes around the park, takes you along the river, and is 1 mile long. Shelters are throughout the park for public use, and restrooms are in the park as well. A war memorial is in the park and during Memorial Day weekend each year, a large display of American Flags is put up for the community to enjoy. A playground is found at the park with swings, a climbing structure, and a playset with slides. 

Reinhart Park 

One of the newest additions to the Idaho Falls parks is the recent addition of a splash pad at Reinhart Park. The splash pad is a great addition and can accommodate kids of all ages including young toddlers. Right next to the splash pad is a restroom, a seating area with benches, and a shade over top for the convenience of adults that bring their children. A large grass area is right next to the splash pad as well so bring a blanket to layout if you prefer to be on the grass. A playground is not too far from the splash pad with a large play structure. 

Kate Curley Park 

If you are looking for a more quiet and smaller park, Kate Curley is the one you will want to go to. It is in the numbered streets of Idaho Falls and not typically as crowded as the other parks found in the area. The park has many mature trees to give you shade during the summer months, shelters to use, and a play structure that is great for kids to play on. There is a walking path that goes around the perimeter of the park that allows you to enjoy the character of the homes in the number of streets. 

Snake River Landing 

Depending on the age range of the group that you are with, you may be on the lookout for a park area that is great for riding bikes, walking, or just enjoying open space. Snake River Landing is just that. You will not find any play structures but there is a great path that takes you along some water and leads to a large pond with the path wrapping around it. Typically you will find ducks or geese in the water. It is a great area for you to walk, ride bikes, ride scooters, or run. Lots of open space, or a great area to throw rocks into the water and get some energy out.
